LAX Holiday Gift Guide for 2018
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is undergoing a massive, multi-billion-dollar modernization and features a plethora of home-grown, L.A. brands ripe for choosing the perfect stocking stuffer.
For those travelers squeezing in one last trip before the holidays, LAX has created a handy gift guide featuring items made in and inspired by Los Angeles; passengers with a same-day boarding pass can move between terminals and shop till they drop…or at least until their flight takes off.
1. Chocolate: See's Candies
Founded in Los Angeles in 1921, no trip to L.A. is complete without sweets from See’s Candies. Visit Terminal 5 to scoop up the crowd-pleasing 1lb Assorted Chocolates, $20.50.
2. Wine: Monsieur Marcel
Opened at the Original Farmers Market in 1993, the flagship Monsieur Marcel is famous for its gourmet foods, olive oils, spices, sauces and more. Fake out someone on your gift list with a fancy bottle of French wine - imported all the way from the Original Farmers Market location at Terminal 5, ooh la la!
3. Toys: Mattel Experience
Invented in 1929 by L.A.-based entrepreneur Ruth Handler, co-founder of L.A. County-based Mattel, Barbie can be found at the Mattel Experience in Terminal 5, beginning at $9.99, alongside Mattel’s Hot Wheels, beginning at $3.99.
4. L.A. Team Gear: Magic Johnson Sports
Find hats, socks, shirts, shorts and more bearing the logos of L.A.’s storied franchises – Rams, Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers – at the Magic Johnson Sports store in Terminal 5. Prices vary.
5. Streetwear: L.A. Original
L.A. is the birthplace of cult favorite streetwear brands including The Hundreds, which has teamed up with L.A. Original, a collection born of diverse artists and makers from across L.A., to create an exclusive embroidered tee shirt for $48. Luke Pelletier, an artist living in L.A., has created a custom L.A. Original skateboard design celebrating L.A.’s notoriety as the birthplace of the newest Olympic sport ($100). See more from the L.A. 6. Books: Book Soup
Book Soup in the Tom Bradley International Terminal offers gorgeous coffee table books celebrating L.A.’s beaches and culture. Pick up TASCHEN’s “Los Angeles” for $70.
7. Postcards: New Stand
Priced at just $.99, these inexpensive and easy-to-pack mementos sold at New Stand in Terminal 1 celebrate L.A.’s geography with eye-catching colors and designs.
8. Fashion: Fred Segal
What’s a trip to L.A. without visiting the iconic Fred Segal? Tom Bradley International Terminal features an outpost chock-full of drool-worthy fashion, including the limited-edition Fred Segal Corduroy Low Profile 9FIFTY Snapback hat for $35.
9. Tacos & Street Cred: Trejo’s Tacos
Trejo's Tacos is legit, so look for Danny Trejo's familiar face at the newly renovated Terminal 1 and gift yourself with favorites like the steak asada burrito, spicy shrimp taco, and vegan options like cauliflower and jackfruit tacos.
10. Coffee: Urth Caffe & Bar
Also located in Terminal 1, Urth Caffe & Bar serves the South Bay-based chain's signature organic coffees, fine teas, and farm-to-table bites.
