Frances Stark’s creative practice is deeply embedded and invested in language. Stark and Owens have been in sustained dialogue over the years as contemporary artists in Los Angeles. This special Artists on Artists offers insight into Stark’s own layered and porous practice, which ranges from carbon drawing, collage, and mixed-media paintings to video, performance, and Instagram photographs, revealing shared nodes of influence and inspiration between the two artists over the years. Priority tickets are available to MOCA members one hour before the program. Fifteen minutes before the program begins tickets will be released to non-members. Exhibits of paintings, sculpture, photography and crafts all greet those who venture to visit this beach-and-harbor-side city's downtown district. This monthly event also includes two stages for live music and street performances.
Art Galleries & Studios dot the old Downtown San Pedro area. Attend an artist opening reception or watch artists at work. Restaurants: You're in for a real treat visiting San Pedro's restaurants. The cuisine ranges from English Pub to Mexican Cafes, Mediterranean to Italian, Japanese to California Cuisine, Thai, Organic Raw Vegan Cuisine, Cuban and others. Shops: Take a walk down memory lane visiting art galleries and shops along 6th and 7th Streets. The "Tivoli Lights" criss crossing the streets makes it feel like you're going to a special party and set the mood for a fun evening. First Thursday Food Trucks Gourmet Food Trucks. This 1st Thursday, Mobile Food Vendors greet you through out the Downtown. The Food Trucks are located on 6th, 7th and Mesa Streets! New Trucks will be Downtown along with some of your favorites from previous 1st Thursdays. The First Thursday Artwalk Tour is different every month – new artists in town, galleries with rotating exhibits, and artists that have been part of the Arts District for years. Each month the tour lasts about one hour and visits different artists and galleries, providing an overview and introduction to San Pedro’s lively Arts District. Visitors enjoy interacting with the artists and curators, learning about the artists’ techniques and inspiration. Wear your walking shoes for this month’s tour – we’ll be covering several blocks. The tour begins at 6:30 in the San Pedro Chamber Board Room Gallery.
Anyone who's been paying attention to the local food scene is well aware of the explosion of Culver City as a foodie destination. With the downtown area well scrubbed from streetscape improvements, locals and visitors alike can experience the area's resurgence first hand by checking out the city's Third Wednesdays, where about two dozen businesses get together to provide art work, music, food and other entertainment.
The East Los Angeles Art Walk takes place every second Sunday of the month.
